The Ministry said that under various PMGSY interventions, thousands of kilometres of rural roads and bridges have been constructed across the country to improve last-mile connectivity, particularly in hilly, border and remote areas such as Jammu and Kashmir. It said that under PMGSY-IV, the government is prioritising habitations with population thresholds of 250+ in hilly States and UTs, including J&K, with special focus on tribal, SC-dominated and aspirational areas to ensure inclusive access to all-weather roads. The Rural Development Ministry maintained that PMGSY continues to be implemented as an area development programme, with habitations as the unit of planning, to ensure equitable rural connectivity in geographically challenging regions like Jammu and Kashmir—(KNO)
